Pink Toenails on Boys

Recently, J. Crew president and creative director, Jenna Lyon’s has come under fire for an email marketing ad that was sent to customers highlighting some of her products. Featured in a photo was her son, Beckett, wearing their Essie hot pink nail polish. The quote accompanying the image reads: “Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.” This sent Fox News Contributor and psychiatrist, Dr. Keith Ablow, over the edge. He recently wrote: Yeah, well, it may be fun and games now, Jenna, but at least put some money (more…)

What Giving Looks Like: A New Insulin Pump

I have participated in many projects in my life, but more often than not, I have never actually accomplished any goal or had the fortune to see any project through to its desired end. I have now had the honor of being a part of something very, very special – something that I was able to see through to the end. As well, the bottom fin on the left front grill was broken off. After a pleasant visit and (more…)

Photos of Angie

As a transgender woman, I can’t help but be familiar with the story of Angie Zapata. She was born in 1989, the year I graduated high school; we also shared the same birth name, Justin. The week of her murder the New York Times reported on her death: It was in that apartment that Ms. Zapata’s badly beaten body was found on July 17. On Wednesday, the police arrested Allen R. Andrade, 31, and charged him with murder. According to the authorities, Mr. Andrade had gone out on a date with Ms. Zapata, and upon discovering she had male genitalia, (more…)

Arson Victims to Insurance: Please do something!

This week I received a copy of a letter sent by Carol Ann and Laura Stutte to their insurance company, American National Property and Casualty (ANPAC). This impassioned plea asks for no less than the insurance company to honor their policy and end their suffering so that they can move on and start their personal healing as well as finding a permanent home.
